Jailer 2 opens on 128 Malaysian cinemas, with 42 sessions at midnight

Jailer 2 has 1,715 sessions listed in Malaysia for its opening day on Thursday 15 October, at 128 cinemas, and the first 42 of them start at or just after midnight tonight. No other film this week comes close: the next widest opening, Street Fighter, has 612 sessions that day.

Every chain is showing it

This site reads thirteen cinema chains, and twelve of them have Jailer 2 this week. GSC lists 2,007 sessions between Thursday and Tuesday 20 October, TGV 1,681 and FST 700, followed by AE Cinemas, Mega, Blockbuster, Paragon, Grand Cineplex, Amerin, Dadi, TSR and One Cinemas. In all there are 5,186 sessions in the week. Selangor holds the most, 1,274, then Kuala Lumpur with 899 and Johor with 864, with Perak and Penang not far behind.

For a reader that means two things. A seat is unlikely to be hard to find after the first weekend, and the choice of hall is wide: 143 sessions are in IMAX at 15 cinemas, 62 in 4DX at five, and 94 in Dolby Atmos.

Delay talk, then a firm date

The date was not always certain. TGV's blog reported on 3 September that talk had been circulating of reshoots that could push the film past October, and that Sun Pictures settled it on 2 September with a new poster captioned for 15 October. According to the same report, director Nelson Dilipkumar announced the sequel in January 2025, production began that March, and filming wrapped in April 2026.

Tiger is back, with new faces

Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. Free Malaysia Today describes the retired prison warden being pulled back into the criminal underworld when a new international syndicate threatens his family. FMT reports that the sequel reunites Rajinikanth with composer Anirudh Ravichander, that Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu return, and that Vidya Balan and SJ Suryah join the cast.

GSC is giving an A3 Jailer 2 poster with every two tickets bought from 15 October, while stocks last. The offer runs at six GSC cinemas only: Nu Sentral, Quill City Mall, Setia City Mall, Kulim Central, Paradigm Mall JB and East Coast Mall.

Where the most sessions are

On Thursday GSC NU Sentral has 47 Jailer 2 sessions, more than any other cinema, ahead of GSC Paradigm Mall in Johor Bahru with 38 and GSC Palm Mall in Seremban with 33. Across the week Paradigm Mall leads with 99, then AE Cinemas Terminal 1 in Seremban with 94 and FST Kampar with 85, a sign of how far beyond the Klang Valley the Tamil audience reaches. Sarawak has 82 sessions and Sabah 27, and on Saturday the film is still at 125 cinemas.

Before you book

The chains list it at 170 minutes and classify it 16, so it is not one for younger teenagers, and a 9pm show ends close to midnight. Of the week's sessions, 424 start at 11:30pm or later, most of them on the opening nights.
