Other Mommy earned US$417,033 in Malaysia over its opening weekend from 8 October, according to The Numbers, which logged the figure on 11 October. Of this week's holdovers, it has the most room here: 2,719 sessions at 102 cinemas between today and Tuesday 20 October.

A hit made for US$19 million

The Malaysian start is part of a strong one worldwide. Screen Daily reported on 12 October that the film reached a confirmed US$45.7 million globally in its first weekend, with North America delivering US$27.8 million and international markets US$17.9 million, enough for second place in the world chart. With a production budget reported at US$18 million to US$19 million, the trade paper called it another profitable title for Universal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. By 14 October The Numbers had the worldwide total at US$50,868,206.

Screen Daily also noted that across the international markets released so far, the film's takings are ahead of the openings of M3GAN. In the UK and Ireland it opened at No. 1 with £2 million from 526 sites.

Two mothers, one of them wrong

Free Malaysia Today's preview explains the premise: based on Josh Malerman's 2024 novel, it follows eight-year-old Bela, who sees a figure emerge from her bedroom closet that calls itself Other Mommy and can mimic her mother Ursula's look and voice. Jessica Chastain plays both. Rob Savage directs.

Where it is playing

GSC and TGV carry almost all of it, with 1,301 and 1,322 sessions this week; 10 Star, Dadi and AE Cinemas have the rest. Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have more than 600 sessions each, and Sarawak, with 238, has more than Penang. The count falls from 776 today to about 400 on Thursday, when the week's new films arrive, so the widest choice of times is now.

On Thursday GSC Gurney Plaza in Penang and GSC Mid Valley have the most sessions, 11 each. Across the week GSC MyTOWN leads with 50, with GSC Mid Valley and TGV Pavilion Damansara Heights at 49 each, and on Saturday the film is still at 92 cinemas, so a weekend seat should not be hard to find.

Before you book

The chains classify it 16 and list it at 92 minutes, short enough that a 10pm show ends well before midnight. 101 sessions this week start at 11:30pm or later for those who want it late. The Other Mommy page lists every cinema, and the showtimes page shows each cinema's Other Mommy times side by side.
